!nnovate Guyana and US-based Caribshopper.com are Now Providing Diaspora with Access to Guyanese Agro-processors’ Products
Miami, Florida and Georgetown, Guyana – December 2, 2024 – !nnovate Guyana (IG) announces a strategic partnership with US-based online consumer packaged goods (CPG) marketplace Caribshopper.com, the premier e-commerce platform in the US and Canada for Caribbean-made consumer products. The collaboration has created direct-to-consumer (DTC) export opportunities for local agro-processors by introducing a curated selection of Guyanese CPG brands to North American consumers.
Long known for featuring goods from Jamaica and Trinidad, Caribshopper.com will now promote in and ship to the US and Canada Guyanese food products under this exclusive agreement. Guyana’s offerings will be available on Caribshopper.com under “Demerara Delights,” which will present brands that have completed the USAID- and IDB Lab-funded !nnovate Guyana Economic Development Accelerator (EDA) program, as well as those that meet the program’s criteria.
The EDA program provides comprehensive support to participants, including training, coaching, technical assistance, and access to zero-interest, recoverable grants of US$5,000 – US $50,000, used for working capital needs. With this collaboration, EDA-awarded businesses will now be able to take advantage of both the duty-free US Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) and Caribbean-Canada Free Trade Agreement (CARIBCAN) to export their agro-processed goods to these North American markets.
“Our partnership with Caribshopper.com marks a significant milestone for Guyana’s food industry,” says Oslene Carrington, founder of !nnovate Guyana, ”This collaboration not only provides local producers with access to U.S. and Canadian markets, but also allows Guyanese living abroad to reconnect with their culinary heritage. Additionally, it enables Caribshopper to diversify its product range with Guyana’s unique offerings. This synergy promises to drive growth for participating agro-processors, satisfy the diaspora’s cravings for a taste of home, and introduce Guyanese flavors to a broader audience. We’re excited about the potential this partnership holds for all parties involved.”
Kadion Preston, CEO of Caribshopper.com said, “We are really excited to be introducing the 40,000+ monthly Caribshopper.com visitors in North America to the high-quality artisanal brands of Guyana. This exclusive partnership with the EDA is special to us, and we’re looking forward to seeing the participating CPG brands really thriving internationally as a result of this collaboration.”
